Residents of 7x sectors seek footbridges at four locations
Noida: Residents of Noida's 7x sectors, home to over 2 lakh people, have demanded the construction of foot-over bridges (FOBs) at four critical locations due to increasing traffic congestion and pedestrian accidents.
With a bustling population that includes workers from neighboring areas, the residents raised these concerns in a meeting with MLA Pankaj Singh earlier this week.
Amit Gupta, a resident of Sector 77 said, "We raised this issue earlier with Noida Authority, but there has been no redress so far. Hence, we met MLA Pankaj Singh with our demand." He specifically mentioned the need for an FOB at the intersection of Sector 71, from Sector 72 to Sector 51 metro station, where commercial buildings are under construction.
Another location identified for an FOB is near Sector 76 metro station, where frequent accidents, including a fatality last month, have highlighted the need for pedestrian infrastructure. Gupta also pointed to the area near Sector 76 police chowki towards Mahagun Moderne Apartments in Sector 78.
"Daily, thousands of people, especially maids and guards, cross from Sector 49, Barola, to Sectors 76, 78, and 79 for work. Recently, one person died while crossing the road here," said VK Gupta, a resident of Sector 74.
The final requested location is near the BSNL crossing on MP 1 Road. Following the closure of this crossing to make it signal-free, pedestrian movement has remained high, and residents believe an FOB is essential.
"Pedestrian movement has not stopped here, and there is a need for an FOB in this area," Gupta added.
MLA Pankaj Singh has acknowledged the residents' concerns and written to the Noida Authority, urging appropriate action on the FOBs and other infrastructure demands. Residents are hopeful that, like the successful FOB construction at Sector 59 metro station in 2019, their requests will be addressed promptly.
